As we made you aware earlier this term, Haybridge High School and Sixth Form ran an extensive consultation with all its stakeholders from 27 April to 25 May 2017 regarding the Governors’ proposal to establish a Multi Academy Trust in the autumn term of 2017. On Wednesday 7 June the Governors convened an Extraordinary meeting where all the responses were discussed and where they agreed unanimously to proceed to conversion. As the school has already secured initial approval from the Department for Education it is hoped that the conversion can proceed relatively expediently.
We will of course continue to notify you of any key information as we move through this process and would wish to use this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the consultation.
What is a MAT?
A MAT is a group of Academies which have joined together to work outside of Local Authority control. A MAT is a single legal entity with one set of Trustees under which schools operate collaboratively, but with considerable freedom to maintain their own character and ethos, for example a religious affiliation or none. All schools within the MAT share a common vision and work together to improve the educational experience and outcomes for all their students. We anticipate that our MAT will be formed of some schools like Haybridge which have no religious affiliation, as well as schools which may have (for example, Church of England primary schools).
What is Haybridge currently?
Haybridge became an Academy on 1 July 2011 and has been operating very successfully as a SAT for six years. It is a “converter” Academy, ie not sponsored by any outside organisation.
What is the process for converting to a MAT? Where are we now?
We are currently (June 2017) at stage five of six stages:
|1. Governors consider whether to apply to form a MAT||Done and agreed|
|2. Governors apply to the Department for Education to form a MAT||Done and approved|
|3. Consultation with all interested parties||Done|
|4. Governors take the final decision on whether to proceed to a MAT||Done|
|5. Legal work, due diligence, the agreement of our Scheme of Delegation and other matters||Current|
|6. Conversion to a MAT on a date to be agreed|
